Sacred Circle Resource Bank
The Sacred Circle Resource Bank (SCRB) lends us all an opportunity to support the interest of a proud and often misunderstood people. Many Native people across the Northern and Southern Plains and other areas of North America live below the poverty level and the extreme harsh winter months there along with the lack of employment means that the simplest living essentials are actually life saving essentials.
Many Native tribes are thriving across North America due to the incorporation of industries into their reservations allocated by independent, organizational or governmental co-ops. However, not all tribes share in the wealth of such opportunities due to the extreme remoteness of some reservations, which often lends to the negative afflictions that isolation breeds.
SCRB will be posting resource depository boxes throughout North Georgia in hopes of you and others helping us to fill these boxes with new blankets, jackets and non-perishable food stock. We will have a few larger trucks in several North Georgia locations to serve as drop-off points as well as several Kroger locations throughout the month of November.
The reason we stress for new versus used is that I, along with an old time friend, found out years ago that we were spending an enormous amount of time and energy sorting, cleaning and in many cases trashing used garments that may have come to us with the best of intentions but were actually heading for a trash can had the donor not dropped them off with us. My friend had a very real understanding as to how those we were distributing these articles of clothing to must have felt even though they expressed great gratitude. One step away from the dump, that is what we had inadvertently created, a well-intended yet unintentional slur on their self worth whether they expressed it or not.
We have a needs list and where we are stressing for new on some items such as blankets, we will not be so rigid as to reject life saving items that are tasteful in wear, appearance and general cleanliness. The recipients of these items do not ask for themselves and therefore your physical, financial and/or creative alliance with the SCRB is greatly appreciated and your efforts will be posted as a collective venture for us all to know that there will be a few more children and elders clinging to your warmth. My friend was a real inspiration in his outreach years ago and he echoes today in his message “Share the Warmth” which I humbly and respectfully invite you to do. Thank you for your considerations and have a happy day.
To learn more about the ongoing plight of these warriors of spiritual endurance, please watch the episode of ABC's "20/20" called "A Hidden America: Children of the Plains" and thank you for your considerations. Have a happy day.
